Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Zor Ka Jhatka’ on Imagine TV is showing some real action-packed water sports games where celebrities are battling out with each other. One of the contestants on the show is Mink Brar, who, after three weeks on the show, claims to have lost six kilos.

Mink grew up in Germany and stepped into Bollywood with ‘Pyar Ka Tarana’ (2003). She was then seen in few films like ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain’ and ‘Saat Rang Ke Sapne’. Zarine Khan shot to limelight as Salman Khan’s discovery in ‘Veer’ and because of her apparent similarity in looks to Salman’s love interest Katrina Kaif. It seems that Salman has not forgotten the Kat-look-alike and is making all possible efforts to keep Zarine’s career going. He has convinced director Anees Bazmee, who is directing ‘Ready’ to rope in Zarine for a guest appearance in the film. In the movie Zarine will be seen with Arbaaz Khan in a brief role. During the weekend, Arbaaz and Zarine flew down to Bangkok to shoot the film.

In Pattaya, Salman Khan shot impressive stunts while driving a tuk-tuk in the narrow streets, in line with Hollywood actor Pierce Brosnan’s fast-paced ad in the ubiquitous Thai rickshaw. The scene shows two tuk-tuks blowing up and the actor jumping into another one and driving off.

Producer Bhushan says, “It was bhai’s (Salman) idea to shoot in a tuk tuk. Unlike the two and three-wheeler vehicles in India, the tuk tuks are very fast and powerful. Their drivers too are experts and can ride them as two- wheelers also. People have shot romantic songs or scenes perhaps, but such a high-voltage action sequence will be seen for the first time in ready. People will enjoy this unique Thai action

‘Dabangg’ star Salman Khan recently proved that he is indeed ‘Dabangg’ when he performed a daredevil stunt in PepsiCo`s new Mountain Dew ad, thus proving that he was indeed the apt celebrity choice by the brand. He jumped off from 10,000 feet in a “wingsuit” from which a parachute springs open. The 45-second TV commercial will air from Friday and a 60-second commercial will be shown in theatres.

“Everyone is afraid of something or the other at some point of his or her life. But if you try to run away from fear, you`d be tired and eventually fear will win. So the best way to overcome fear is to face it, run through it because `Darr Ke Aage Jeet Hai`,” Salman said in a statement.

Alpana Titus, category marketing director (flavoured carbonated drinks), PepsiCo India Beverages, says, “Salman has jumped from a mountain which was 10,000 feet high. He did have jitters initially but was confident it would work out well and he would be able to overcome his fears in turn,” she said.

“Salman was our first choice because he embodies our (Mountain Dew`s) tagline `Darr Ke Aage Jeet Hai` accurately and he also has a nationwide fan following. People in not only the metros but also the remote areas follow him,” she added.

Preity Zinta has finally taken a first step towards her television debut. She has started shooting for the promos of Guinness World Records - Ab India Todega, the show that she will be hosting on Colors Channel.

The actress tried to break an international record at Film City herself!


In a promo video while pulling a truck she says, “Australia ka Derek Boyer ka Guinness World Record aaj main toodoongi.”

Later she stated, “Chaliye main naa kar saki toh kya hua? India kar ke dikhadega. Ab garv se har Hindustani bolega, Guinness World record, Ab India Todega.”

This is a desi version of the international show, produced by Miditech and will be aired later this year.

According to the channel, the never-say-die attitude of Priety echoes the concept of the show and it also represents the spirit of new India. She will try to encourage all the viewers to take a plunge to make or break records.

Surily Goel will be styling Preity for this show. Surily says, “I am excited to style Priety for her television debut. A show like Guinness World Records will be a great platform to experiment with various looks. Her personality is quite sporty, energetic and adventurous, and hence, I will style her keeping her personality in mind. I have given her a waistcoat over a casual shirt teamed with boots and gloves especially for the promo shoot.”

Imran Khan is one of the biggest fans of the Pakistani rock band Strings for many years now. He was completely shocked when his wife, Avantika got them to perform for his birthday (January 13).

A source revealed, “The newlyweds were staying at an exclusive resort, which is an hour’s drive from Phuket, Thailand, on an island called Kaho Lak. On his birthday, Avantika told Imran that there would be barbeque at the seaside with a live band performing for him. He had no idea that the band would be strings.” Imran joined the band on the stage.

The actor confirmed the news saying, “It was one of the best birthdays I have had. Everyone seemed to know about it. What surprised me was that not a single murmur had reached my ears till the morning when I saw them on stage. We enjoyed listening to them and jammed with them as well. What is really nice that I got to know them really well and am happy to say we really jammed well.”

The band stayed with the newly weds, family and friends and they left after a few hours.

A few days ago there was news in one of the leading tabloids that Karisma and Sanjay’s marriage is going through a rocky patch. Now, the news is that Karisma will be filing for divorce.

Babita and Randhir’s elder daughter, Karisma, is ready to contemplate divorce after her irreconcilable differences with her husband. Something has led to a quasi-separation between the pair. A close source revealed, “If she has not yet filed it, it would be any time now.”

After a really long deliberation, Karisma has decided that she cannot be with Sanjay anymore. She is not in the mood to take him back. It is just a matter of time before the lawyers will be appointed to do the needful.

The source adds, “The time has come for Karisma to emerge from a bad marriage. She is terribly distraught and very stressed. She has virtually become a loner.”

To cheer her up, her friends dragged her to a fashion show, which was held in October, hoping that she would let her hair down. But suddenly the media happened to enter the party enclave. Seeing this Karisma ran away from the party.

The source says, “She feared that someone or other would ask her about her marriage and she would not be able to hide it.”

Sanjay Kapur is a Delhi based industrialist who married Karisma in September 2003. They had their first child in 2005, the second one in March 2010.

The source added, “Even when Karisma was pregnant with her second child, Sanjay was in the company of some girl. After she delivered her second baby, a son, he got cozy with a socialite in Delhi.”

Another source said, “Sanjay has not been to Oberoi Crest, Khar the new home where Karisma is living since the past three months. Karisma is undergoing hell. She has devoted a lot of her time in this relationship. She reconciled with Sanjay hoping that things will sort out.”

Guess the Delhi-Mumbai flights will be less frequent now, as Karisma will start fresh in the city of dreams, again.

This Kapoor scion, who is famous for his high profile romances, topped the survey, which was conducted by the London Weekly, Eastern Eye.

The 28-year-old heartthrob of the nation says, “If the women did not like me I would feel that something is wrong, but it does feel good. I do understand that the fans I have comprise mainly of women, it feels good to be wanted by so many women.”

Meanwhile the editor of Eastern Eye said that the actor had claimed for this title with an overwhelming margin. The editor said, “Usually it is a closely fought contest, where as this year there was only one clear winner. Winning by large margin is remarkable when you take into consideration the very high profile men who were in the list.”

Ranbir made his acting debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. He has been going strong post his launch and has tasted every bit of the commercial success with hits like Rajneeti, Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani.

The newcomer in Bollywood Ranveer Singh recently made his debut in Band Baaja Baaraat opposite Anushka Sharma and confirmed that they both are very good friends. He does not bother about the rumors, which claim that they both are romantically involved. Ranveer told, “She and I are very god friends. How do I change the truth just because it sounds clichéd? Neither of us are affected about what people are saying.”

As for the rumors that are floating in the air these days, he says, “I was too much into my work to even pay attention to the rumors. I just want to perform well and this has been my only concern. In fact, I was casually dating a girl and a call from Yashraj changed my life. So far I have never been in a serious relationship and my career has just started.”

He continued saying, “We come from different schools of filmmaking. I am a trained actor and she has never been to an acting school. As a model she has faced the camera several times and is two films older to me. She is a one-take actor and I believe in a lot of rehearsal, which was the only thing that annoyed Anushka the most. Because her first take was always the best. We had to come to a middle ground before we both could take off. Now, I feel that I was rehearsing more than required because it was my first movie. She is the one who taught me how to be spontaneous. But the fact is we had to be complete loggerheads on screen and this was helped with our constant friction on the sets regarding the approach of acting.”

When asked about his first release Band Baaja Baaraat he says, “I think after this movie I have to do something with a completely contrasting character. Someone who is not opinionated, loud and unsophisticated.”

One call from Yashraj changed my life, “It was completely out of the blue from the casting director Shanu Sharma. I distinctly remember that I was out on a date and that day Shanu kept calling me. I tried to avoid her calls for as long as I could because I had different things on my mind that moment. Imagine if I had not received her call from Yashraj that day for a fling, which had lasted only for ten days! Anyways the next day I went to Yashraj and did two scenes and they gave a call back within three days. Later, Adi Sir told me that he had made up his mind about me immediately.”

There have been rumors that his father had financed the film, he says, “Yes such rumors do hurt me a lot. And such ugly things take away my pleasure of being the first solo hero to be launched by Yashraj. The pride of my family that I made it on my own got blunted, it was like snatching my little achievement from me. I am proud of myself and I believe in destiny so no rumor can even affect me.”

Karan Johar completely broke down when SRK started speaking about his former friends Farah Khan and Salman Khan. The episode of Koffee with Karan will air on January 2.

A source on the sets says, “SRK’s episode with KJo is emotional where Shahrukh Khan has been caught in a mellow, introspective mood. He is emotionally vulnerable, revelaing things that have hurt him in the last year.”

The source continued to add, “When Karan pointed out people feel that old friends Farah Khan and Salman have problems with Shahrukh Khan, SRK said, ‘I don’t know how to make friends and if I did and I have no clue how to keep them. If Salman and Farah are upset with me then it is 100 percent my fault, but I can’t pick up the phone and say sorry. I cannot apologize because I have ego issues, but because I cannot say get myself to ask people to come back to me. Once I did ask my parents to come back to me and they did not.”

He also admitted that one of his biggest enemies is his cell phone as many of his friends have complained that he does not take their calls and ignores them. At one point Karan had tears in his eyes when SRK said, “I feel it is understood that I love them if I have said it once, I cannot keep repeating it. I have some problem in saying ‘I Love You’ twice and thrice and keep repeating those words. Even in my movies I can never keep saying ‘I Love You!’”

KJo said, “It was totally a different cup of coffee this time. it is really awkward to discuss and recreate all those intimate scenes normally again. Till date I have never become emotional on the sets of Koffee with Karan, because that has never been the tone of the show. It is usually controversial and spicy.”

When asked about SRK on the couch he says, “SRK is one of the warmest human beings I have seen in this industry, he has spoken openly about his family, friends and relationships. There is some strength in what he said. He is beyond any kind of issues. You can feel that he has risen above every situation and this comes beautifully through this show. This coffee on the couch episode with SRK was emotionally unplugged and more than humor unplugged. It has a new impact!”

In a rare turn Maddalsa Sharma turns her attention from Southward to the Tinsel Town. It would not be too much if we give her the tag- Southern Siren turns to bollywood.
So can we call you a Southern siren? “I turned southward merely because Abbas Mastan had advised me to do some films down South. And having worked in South I feel I have learned few tips of acting. It is an additional feather to my acting career.” Elaborating the difference in tollywood and bollywood she says,” People out there are damn professional, if they have to begin the first shot at 6a.m they will see to it that they call for the first at the same time. Bollywood guys are not very punctual. But I love to work in bollywood.In South I feel like an alien as I do not know the language at all, though I have learnt few words here and there. But all in all finally we are working in cinema and we enjoy our profession so it does not matter whether it is Tollywood or Bollywood.” She gasps
Maddalsa was to be the muse of Abbas Mastan but things did not work as she expected. She was finalized for their film two years ago but since the script went hay wire and in the meanwhile she got an opportunity to work with Choreographer turned Director Ganesh Acharya she could not resist the offer.” Yes! I was to do a film with the duo director Abbas Mastan but somehow or the other things were being delayed and in the mean while I got a call from Ganeshji. I fared for an audition and got selected. ”

Talking about the character she adds,” I liked the character very much. I have to perform everything in gestures. I am suffering from cerebral palase and hence acting without speaking was like a challenge. I enjoyed performing this wonderful character.

Well! Since Nilesh Sahay is Sanjay Dutt’s nephew did you not feel side tracked? “No it is an advantage to have Sanjay Dutt‘s nephew as we get some extra perks for the publicity of the film. I never felt side tracked as I hail from the family belonging to the filmdom, so I can understand it fully well that Nilesh Sahay proved to be an extra bonus to us as far as publicity is concerned.”

Also being from the filmy family she feels she could easily avert being the victim to casting couch.” ‘Yes! I do agree that casting couch exists in the film industry. But since my mom belongs to this filed she handles all my meetings and my auditions. I am lucky to be moving under the protective wings of my mom. All my assignments are handled my mom. Also directors and producers are known to us, more over I do not think anyone will forcibly say,’ Mein tumhe role de raha hoon toh tum mujhe kya dogi.’ A girl is responsible to be the victim to casting couch they are infact the ones who readily make advances towards it. I feel we need to know our limits and success is bestowed upon us without facing any such things.” Confesses Madalssa.”

Last but not the least talking about her love interest she adds,” I am not interested in getting into any relationship. Especially getting involved in any love affair is not of importance to me. I can wait for match making. Right now I am interested in my career and definitely wanna make my name on the bollywood map” she concludes.

Saat Khoon Maaf is a flop.


It seems that this year is not meant for the so-called different kind of movies. After Dhobi Ghaat and Yeh Saali Zindagi, Saat Khoon Maaf comes as the third off-beat film that has not found many takers at the ticket window and has failed this year.

But contrary to the earlier two films, the failure of Saat Khoon Maaf comes as big surprise to everyone since it was an offering by an established director like Vishal Bhardwaj, who in the past has provided a hit even from his off-beat stories.

As far as Saat Khoon Maaf is concerned, it did not have many takers from the first day itself. The film started poorly on the first day and was only able to collect a little more over Rs 3 Crore at the box office. The film only picked up slight momentum on Sunday, managing a business of a little more than Rs 10 Crore in first three days of its release.

Just like the case with most off-beat films released in the recent past, Saat Khoon Maaf has done better in big cities than smaller centres. But even then, it has not managed to impress audiences with its overall collections not exceeding more than 40%.

After taking into considerations the money it will collect from selling Television, audio and video rights, the producers of this film will earn some profit but it will be a total loss for the distributors, who invested their money in Saat Khoon Maaf.

Everyone associated with the new film being made by Farah Khan’s husband Shirish Kunder is having a great time shooting in Chandigarh. It is Akshay Kumar, who is ensuring that the team of Joker has a blast during the shooting of the film and remembers the shooting of Joker for the rest of their life.

Akshay was keen that while shooting for this film, the unit maintains a family like atmosphere. He is always keen that he shoots most of his films in Mumbai so that his wife and son are always around to give him company or ensures that he takes his family along for holidays while going for shooting abroad, so that he gets that comfortable home like situation even when he is working. But this time around, his wife and son were not able to accompany him to the shooting schedule of Joker because his son could not miss school.

Since Akshay was finding it a little difficult shooting for Joker in such a professional set-up, he made a suggestion to director Shirish to ask his wife Farah Khan to join them for the shooting along with their three children. This not only brought Farah to the sets of Joker, but also cleared the rumors of her difference with Akshay after the failure of Tees Maar Khan.

Apart from creating a home like atmosphere on the sets, Akshay is also known to pamper all his lead ladies, who work opposite him in films. Reports suggest that he has ensured that Soakshi Sinha, who is working with Akshay for the first time, also has a great time during this shooting. Reports suggest that the lead pair of Joker had a blast while shooting for the film.

Hopefully the efforts put in by Akshay to keep the atmosphere of shooting of Joker family like and light will bear good fruits and Joker will come up as a fine piece of cinema.

Bipasha Basu is upset with director Rohan Sippy for ignoring her in the posters of Dum Maro Dum.


Bipasha Basu is not happy with director Rohan Sippy for giving more prominent place to Deepika Padukone in the posters of his upcoming film Dum Maro Dum despite the fact that Bipasha is the senior actress and the lead lady of the film while Deepika is much junior to her and will only make a guest appearance in the title track of the film.

Since Deepika’s performance on the title track of Dum Maro Dum has already become the talk of the town in Bollywood, the producers wants to take advantage of this and highlight it on the posters of the film. Reports suggest that after debating it on an extensive basis, Rohan has therefore decided that instead of the lead pair of Bipasha and Abhishek Bachchan, the first poster of the film should have Deepika’s face on it.

Bipasha was so upset to hear about the director’s decision to totally side-line her from the poster of the film that she even called-up the director and raised the issue with him. In his attempt to settle the issue with Bipasha and pacify her, the director has told the lead lady of his film that this poster will only feature as the teaser and assured her that Bipasha will be highlighted significantly in the subsequent posters.

Rohan is also of the view that the song Dum Maro Dum, from Dev Anand’s 1971 hit Hare Rama Hare Krishna is still a rage with the youth and by highlighting it appropriately, he can pull a lot of crowd to the theatres. But this is a very difficult situation for the director because alongside he also has to keep Bipasha in good spirits. After all being the female lead, it’s Bipasha, who has to promote the film and Rohan cannot afford to hear a No from her in this regard

This is not the first time that such a story is being narrated in a Bollywood movie. Many films starting from Purab Aur Pashchim to just recently made Namastey London have told this story time and again with the same success. The makers of Tanu Weds Manu have also tried to highlight the same theme of East versus the West through this film.

This is a story of Manu [R. Madhavan], a simple doctor from London. He is intelligent, quite, soft spoken and loves old songs of Rafi. In short, he is one man, which any parents would like to see as a match for their daughter. Manu wants to marry a simple Indian girl but when he comes to India for this purpose, he finds that the girls living here are not the same any more as he and his family thought them to be. Whereas he was looking for a simple girl from India, the girl his parents force him to meet is Tanu [Kangana Ranaut]. Tanu originally belongs to a small town, but having studied in Delhi for a long period of time, she has become very aggressive and dominating, even smokes and drinks and has had many affairs. She is a rebellious girl, who has her own way of thinking and never follows the instructions of her parents.

The film has some very interesting moments. Especially the first hour of the film is quite enjoyable. Whether it’s the sequence where Madhavan tells Kangana’s friend that he does not like her or the scene before the interval, they are all very interesting. But sadly, the writers have not managed to keep the story going the same way in the second half as well. There are so many flaws in the script and the screenplay after the interval that as a viewer, you don’t understand what is happening and tend to lose interest in the film. The writers have unnecessarily tried to stretch the story at some points, making the film boring. The story fails to explain why Kangana turns into a simple girl all of a sudden or why can’t Jimmy Sheirgill recognize Madhavan when he has seen his photograph and heard all about him. The story come back to track only at the end with the climax having been written beautifully.

The direction of Aanand L Rai is good. He has not only told the story in the most unconventional way but there are many occasions where the story takes an unexpected turn. As a viewer, you are eager to see what is going to happen next in the film. The music and cinematography of the film are also good.

The manner in which R. Madhavan has portrayed the character in this film goes to show that he has put in a lot of effort in understanding it. He has made his character look restrained as well as forceful to once again reinforce the fact that he has tremendous acting skills. The same goes for Kangana. Her character in Tanu Weds Manu had a little shade of what different heroines have done in many films. It was therefore necessary that while enacting this role, people see Kangana as original Tanu and do not compare her with any other heroine in any other character. You can call it the share excellence of Kangana that she has maintained a freshness in her performance so that you don’t see the shade of any other character from another film in her performance. Moreover, her character needed to be portrayed in such a way that it shows that it is bubbly and full of life. Kangana manages to do precisely the same as Tanu. The only flaw in her character is her dialogue delivery, which is not at all clear. She needs to work more on this aspect.

The two lead stars of the film have been supported well by Jimmy Sheirgill, Deepak Dobriyal, Rajendra Gupta, K.K. Raina, Navni Parihaar, Deepti Mishra, Eijaz Khan and Swara Bhaskar. The only disappointment was Ravi Kishen as his role did not justify his acting talent.

Tanu Weds Manu is a uncomplicated feel-good, light-hearted entertaining film with a lot of humour, drama and romance. With no big releases for the next two months, it should find some takers at least

Vishal Bhardwaj’s films may not be money spinners, but they are high on content as is his Priyanka Chopra starrer “7 Khoon Maaf” that has a different story to tell. The film has not only garnered good reviews but has so far earned Rs.28 crore from its opening week box office collections and satellite and other rights.

The dark thriller about an incorrigible serial spouse-killer cost Rs. 22 crore, which includes the money spent on publicity and advertising.

Released with 786 prints, its opening weekend collection was Rs.13 crore. Overseas collections accounted for Rs. 2 crore, the music and satellite rights fetched Rs.11 crore and home video and other sources brought in Rs.2 crore.

“‘7 Khoon Maaf’ has worked well for us commercially due to a combination of tight production budgeting, optimised spending on prints and publicity and a pre-sales strategy that helped us to de-risk the film via sales of home video, music, satellite and theatrical rights even before the release,” Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, Motion Pictures UTV, told IANS.

“7 Khoon Maaf” is based on Ruskin Bond’s ‘Susanne’s Seven Husbands’ and tracks the story of a beautiful young girl, Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes (Priyanka), who ends up tying the knot seven times following the untimely and mysterious deaths of her hapless husbands. In the film, Priyanka’s character ages from 20 to 65 years.

“The response to the film was good at the weekend with 78 percent occupancy, although it dropped to 40 percent on Monday,” said Amit Awasthi, senior manager (Programming and Operations) Spice Cinemas.

“The first half of the film is interesting but in the second half it becomes slow. Priyanka’s acting is being really appreciated by one and all,” he added.

The film has garnered good reviews and critics are raving about Bhardwaj’s directorial skills and Priyanka’s acting prowess.

One reviewer wrote: “Bhardwaj’s reveals himself yet again as that rare Renaissance man in an art form that deserves more.” Another said: “This is Bhardwaj’s most fluidly-narrated film to date.”

Appreciating Priyanka’s work, one critic said: “Priyanka, not for the first time, proves she is leagues ahead of all competition.” Another wrote: “For Priyanka Chopra, who plays the Anglo-Indian protagonist, this is unquestionably a role of a lifetime. She has you by the eyeballs.”

Yogesh Raizada, corporate head (Cinemas) of Wave Cinemas said every actor in the film had given of their best.

“Priyanka is excellent in the film, Irrfan Khan and Annu Kapoor are known for their acting prowess, John (Abraham) has right stature in the film. All in all, everyone has acted well in the film. Since it’s a dark film, family audiences are lower. The occupancy was 60-70 percent over the weekend,” he said.

Ritika Sharma, a media professional, was all praise for Priyanka’s acting.

“Although the film is a bit slow, Priyanka Chopra takes the cake. She is superb in the film,” she said.

Said Ankita Malhotra, who works with a telecom company: “Priyanka carries the film on her shoulders.”

Multiplex audiences are appreciating the film, but single screen audiences are not showing much enthusiasm.

“Multiplex audiences are liking the film but the single screen audiences are just average, mainly because family audiences are lower. With comedy film ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ releasing Friday, the film is definitely going to take a hit,” said a source from PVR.

katrina step down fron grand ambassador post in royal challenger banglore

BollywoodWorld.com, Actress Katrina Kaif has stepped down as the brand ambassador of Indian Premier League team Royal Challengers Bangalore because she feels she will not be able to do justice to her responsibilities towards the team due to the IPL-4 matches clashing with her shooting schedule.

The Banglaore IPL team had extended her appointment as the brand ambassador for seasons three and four, but she is unable to continue as she would be shooting for Yash Raj Film’s “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” during IPL-4 beginning April 8.

The film’s shooting is in Agra and, therefore, it won’t be possible for her to make appearances to support the team and hence the decision to step down as brand ambassador, a press statement said.

“Katrina Kaif is a thorough professional and believes in giving her 100 percent to all her commitments. She is an avid sport’s enthusiast and wanted to be present for all of the team’s matches to cheer them on,” said a source.

“However, since she will be shooting during IPL-4, she has decided to opt out of the Royal Challengers since she wouldn’t be doing justice to them,” the source added.

“Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” is Ali Abbas Zafar’s directorial debut and Katrina has teamed up with actor Imran Khan and Pakistani singer-actor Ali Zafar in the movie.

“Mere Brother Ki Dulhan” is scheduled to release worldwide in July.

Sunny Deol is ready to cash in on the success of his home production “Yamla Pagla Deewana” — details are now being worked out for not just one but an ongoing series of films, as well as a television series based on the Deols’ characters in hit comedy.

Starring Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol, the comedy directed by Samir Karnik did good business at the box office.

Contrary to rumours of a fall-out with the Deols, Karnik is not only going ahead with a sequel to “Yamla Pagla Deewana”, he has even cracked the idea for the sequel.

He immediately called Sunny who was as excited and told Karnik: “Yeh idea to pehle wale se bhi dhansoon hain (this idea is even more exciting than the first film).”

But there’s just one catch — Dharmendra, who has obtained a new lease of life with “Yamla Pagla Deewana”, has his own ideas on how to carry forward the story. Apparently he wants his character Dharam Singh to move to Canada with his wife (Nafisa Ali) where he tries his best to be a decent husband and a law-abiding citizen but can’t help reverting to his old crooked ways.

Karnik is okay with incorporating Dharamendra’s ideas into the sequel.

“Dharampaaji’s ideas sar-aankhon par. He is like my father. He says I am his third son. Sunny and Bobby are like my brothers. Of course, I will incorporate Dharampaaji’s ideas… I need to sit down with my writer Jasvinder Bhatt and work out the details. We should have the sequel rolling by the year-end,” said the director who is finally seeing success after eight years of struggle.

7 Khoon Maaf into croud

Glocal – that’s the last word of 7 Khoon Maaf’s review from my favorite movie reviewer, Nikhat Kazmi. I couldn’t agree more. “Coming of age” is another description I would like to add. Finally, with “7 Khoon Maaf”, the Indian heroine comes out of the shadow and that too with a bang. A very decisive 2011 has decided to give it’s tribute to woman power with the unapologetic trilogy of “No One Killed Jessica”, “Turning 30” and “7 Khoon Maaf”….

Plot:
Sussana suffers at the hand of her seven husbands, but unlike the thousands of Indian females, she doesn’t suffer in the proverbial “silence”. Instead, she hits back hard at her tormentors… hard enough to take their breaths away, quite literally. That’s the general crux of the movie and apart from that, the rituals of marriage and love and relationships keep happening intermittently.

The opening of Kiran Rao’s `Dhobi Ghat` was quite dull, but thanks to the presence of Aamir Khan the film managed a decent weekend. Unfortunately the film could not capitalize on it (despite the Republic Day holiday) and saw quite an ordinary run. The film crashed by over 90 percent during the second week. Having said that the 11 crore (inclusive of print and publicity) `Dhobi Ghat` has been distributed worldwide by the makers and so once the non-theatrical rights are accounted for the film will be profitable for the producers. The Aamir-Prateik starrer has done decently in the Overseas, especially in the US.

Yeh Saali Zindagi

After a decent weekend, Sudhir Mishra’s `Yeh Saali Zindagi` showed good staying power during the weekdays as well, but the 10.50 crore (including print and publicity) will have to sustain more for being called a success, even after accounting for the non-theatrical rights. The film though has been rejected in the Overseas.

7 Khoon Maaf new film

The week saw the release of master director Vishal Bhardwaj’s `7 Khoon Maaf` along with the Sagar Bellary directed `Kaccha Limboo` and the Divya Dutta and Rajpal Yadav starrer `Masti Express`. Like all new releases (post `Yamla Pagla Deewana`) `7 Khaan Maaf` too started on a slow to dull note but showed signs of a pick up by the later shows. The other two releases failed to make any impact.

That really got me stunned.” Akshay really wanted to bring out the best from his actress, even if it was something as gross as spitting. i wasn't getting the time to watch Dhobi Ghat but I did this week. Although it is a very small film about 90 minutes but I watched in two halves. The movie is written and directed by Kiran Rao. It was her first movie as a director
The movie is about four characters belonging to different class and social strata. All of them live in Mumbai. The movie shows how they get into contact with each other. Aamir Khan plays the role of Arun - a very renowned painter who is a recluse. He keeps to himself and doesn't even make an appearance at his own exhibitions and show casing. I loved the way he was smoking. It was very natural. And the expressions he gave were brilliant.

Prateik on the other hand is a poor dhobi guy - Munna (Zohaib). He works as a dhobi in the day and as a rat at killer at night to earn extra money. But he likes to workout, dress up well and is a big fan of Salman Khan. He dreams to work in movies. He is a born artist and delivers dialogues in a flow. I loved his pet cat in the movie.

Monica Dogra plays the role of an American banker (Shai) who has come to Mumbai for sometime. She is a bit different and becomes friendly with Munna. He asks Munna to show her dhobi ghat and other places. She and Arun also have a few sparks but Arun got all agitated and blew things up by telling her he isn't the relationship sort of guy. But Shai has the hots for him. Although there is a class difference between Munna and her but she is actually genuinely nice and friendly with him. I didn't really like her much but she was an important part of the story.

The fourth character is played by Kriti Malhotra - another new comer. She plays the role of Yasmin. Arun finds a few tapes on which he saw Yasmin talking to her family who was elsewhere in India. She was a young girl who recently got married and was always alone. Arun got inspired by her natural way of expressing things. He felt her emotions, her pain, her loneliness and tried to understand her life through her tapes. Yasmin lived in the same flat in which Arun lived now. In the end, Arun discovered that the girl was so tired of her unhappy life and her unfaithful husband that she would hang herself. This was the best scene in which Aamir Khan really gave the best expressions ever. He seemed so helpless and was scared.

For Kiran Rao's first directorial work she did well. I liked the story and the script very much. Aamir and Prateik were great. In the girls I liked Kriti more. I actually liked the casting selection because everybody portrayed their class pretty well. I think most art movie fans would like it and people who look for movies with some depth could watch it. It is a clean movie and not at commercial.

The homely suits, part of Prachi Desai’s telly star days, are not to be seen anymore. Designer ensembles are taking their place. Prachi is still in the process of going glam. However, that hasn’t stopped her from stepping into Bipasha Basu’s very classy stilettos. “Yes, I have signed Abbas Mustan’s next venture Life Partner. I am aware that Bipasha was offered this role, but she had date problems. Since her exit and my entry in the film happened at the same time, everyone conjectured that I have been given her role.” The film also stars Fardeen Khan, Govinda and Genelia D’Souza.

But, at the moment, Prachi wants to lock herself in a room to escape the reviews of her first cinematic venture Rock On opposite Farhan Akhtar. She says, “It feels as if we are waiting for the results after the exams. Since, all of us had prepared really well, the results should be good too.” Reams of newsprint have been dedicated to her makeover for the film, and she couldn’t be happier. She says, “They played extensively with my looks and everyone is pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Had it not been for the film, I would have never glammed myself up this way.” And how was it working with Farhan? “To start with, I was very nervous, since I was acting with a director. But he can’t keep his mouth shut to save his life. He is always cracking jokes and saying something or the other,” she says.

Bollywood actres Priyanka Chopra has shot down reports that she has been roped in to star opposite Aamir Khan in Yash Raj’s “Dhoom 3″.

“I have not been approached for ‘Dhoom 3′,” Priyanka told reports here Tuesday. The actress was present along with director Vishal Bhardwaj at PVR cinemas in Select Citywalk Mall for promoting her upcoming film “7 Khoon Maaf”.

Asked if she would like to be a part of the film, Priyanka added, “I don’t answer hypothetical questions. If something happens I would definitely let everyone know.”

Actor-turned producer Zayed Khan says his father Sanjay has revived his production house and will announce a new film project next month.
"I will star in the film...details of which will be announced officially next month," Zayed told reporters here.

To a question on why he chose to launch his own production company 'Born Free Entertainment' when he could have been actively involved in his father's company, Zayed said he and his father were temperamentally different in approaching issues.

"But I will surely act in the film," he assured.

The 30-year-old actor said when he told his father about his plans to turn producer, he did not sound too enthusiastic.

"He thought I was very casual and indicated that production was not a child's play. Now that everything is on paper and we are ready with our first film which has gone on floors this week, he has given me his best wishes and that means a lot to me," Zayed said.

'Love, Breakups, Zindagi' starring Zayed and his co-producer Dia Mirza is written and directed by Sahil Sangha, their partner in the production house.

Sanjay Khan's new project is yet untitled. Earlier, he has directed and produced films like 'Chandi Sona', 'Abdullah', 'Kala Dhanda Goray Log' before shifting to television with shows like 'The Sword of Tipu Sultan', 'The Great Maratha' and 'Jai Hanuman'.

The movie has grossed approximately USD 1.8 million at the overseas box office. The US accounts for USD 500,000.

In the US, it was opened in 68 screens with top five grossing reported from Santa Clara and Fremont in California; North Brunswick in New Jersey and Flushing and Farmingdale in New York.

In Canada, it was opened on 14 screens with top grossing from Brahmpton, Toronto and Etobicoke in Ontario and Vancouver in British Columbia, B4U said in a press statement here.

‘Wake Up Sid’ director Ayaan Mukherjee wanted to cast Deepika Padukone in his second directorial project as Ranbir Kapoor the lead hero but the actor straightway refused to share screen space with his ex-flame.

While Deepika Padukone in an interview said that she is open to work with Ranbir but it is Ranbir who feels discomfort acting alongside with his ex.

In the film, the lead actress’s character resemblance to Deepika in ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and so the director was keen to have her on board.

Says Mukherji, "It is not true. Speculation is pointless right now because the truth is that I am still in the process of writing the script of my film.

Only when the script is finalised, will we decide who suits the part best, and then approach that actress with an offer."

A source close to Ranbir says, "Ayaan is still working on the script so the heroine has not even been discussed as yet. Ranbir has asked him for a narration."

Ameer khan dharbi ghat film'Dhobi Ghat' is a rare movie to come out of Bollywood and it is meant for the global stage, says Cameron Bailey, co-director of the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) where the film will be premiered this week. It is the first non-masala, non-song-and-dance film from Bollywood to make to the world's premier film festival which opens here Thursday to showcase about 300 films from around the world.

Set in the monsoon Mumbai season, the film revolves around intertwined lives of Aamir Khan (Arun in the lead role), and Monica Dogra (NRI girl Shai) and Prateik Babbar (washerboy Munna).

Praising director Kiran Rao and her husband Aamir Khan in the lead role for doing a "terrific, terrific job,'' Bailey told IANS: "'Dhobi Ghat' is really not a masala move. It has no song, no dancing. It's really an independent film - a story that's a love letter to Mumbai, it's very much about the people of Mumbai. And it has Aamir Khan in a role of an artist that you often don't see him in - he has done a terrific job. The film's three intertwined stories really give you the feel, the texture of Mumbai today.''

Asked why he picked up the film for the festival, he said, "I love the film - it's that simple. I have talking to them for months. When I saw it in July in Mumbai, I fell in love with it. It is very beautifully done. It's very provocative, romantic. It really captures the feel of Mumbai - the things I love about the city, the vibrancy of the place, the feel of its streets, and the people. And it all happens in the monsoon season so that you get the texture of the rain, and how it feels to be there at that time of the year.''

Bailey added, "It is a film of great ambition - it is doing things that we don't see in Indian cinema very often. Then you have Aamir Khan - who I think is really one of the national treasures of India - in the lead role. All these things combined made it a movie we had to have here.''

With 'Dhobi Ghat,' the Toronto film festival boss said, Kiran Rao has made a dream directorial debut.

"This is her first directorial effort, though she has been working on films for years. I think she is part of a generation of filmmakers that we are seeing come up now in India - a new school in international cinema. This generation is not making films out of the Indian commercial cinema context, but making films that are referencing American independent cinema or European cinema or Asian cinema.

"Kiran has talked to me about being influenced by a couple of Asian film makers - Tsai-Ming Liang from Taiwan and Wong Kar-wai from Hong Kong. So I find that there is now a kind of dialogue happening among filmmakers in different parts of the world.''

He said, ""Dhobi Ghat' is a film that will work on the international stage, and I think she (Kiran) is a super talented filmmaker.''

Apart from 'Dhobi Ghat,' Anurag Kashyap's 'The Girl in Yellow Boots' is another main Indian entry at this year's film festival

While shooting for a car chase sequence in Berlin, SRK who was racing the car with the Priyanka Chopra seated beside him, unluckily lost control over the car and slammed into a camera nearby, ruining it totally.

No one was injured although the camera which costs a few lakhs was a major loss. He immediately got out of the car and apologized to all, including director Farhan Akhtar. He also volunteered to pay for the losses. He also thanked God that nobody was injured. Farhan called for a break to let everyone’s nerves settle down before resuming shooting.
Recently, SRK has stamped a ‘D’ on his right arm.

Nevertheless, whether the letter ‘D’ relates to a loved one or is it for the promotion of his upcoming flick ‘Don 2-The Chase Continues’, still remains a mystery.

Both the films, ‘Ra.One’ and ‘Don 2,’ starring SRK in the lead role, are scheduled for a global release in December, this year.

He is to host the reality shows Zor Ka Jhatka on Imagine Channel is to be aired from the 1st of February.

The reality show is being touted as the biggest ever grosser in terms of the TRP ratings and thus it has been allotted the 9pm slot by the authorities of the channel.

The channel is to go in for a couple of shuffles in the airing time slots of its shows so as to accommodate this very interesting action thriller reality show on the prime time of 9pmto 10pm during weekdays.

The channel has plans to shift some of its shows like Armano Ka Balidan-Aakarshan, which has been shifted to the 7.pm slot and Gunahon Ka Devta has been moved to the 8.30 pm slot.

Baba Aisa Varr Dhoondo will be shifted to the 10pm slot. However, Kitni Mohabbat hai will remain at the 8 pm time slot.
