Vandhan Vendran – Movie Review

After his astounding success of K V Anand’s ‘Ko’, actor Jiiva joined the big league of those top young stars. Though his next outing ‘Rowthiram’ did not do well he had all hopes on this film ‘Vandhan Vendran’ that saw its release today!

And, here is the next big film of Jiiva ‘Vandhan Vendran’. So, how he has fared in the film and what his stakes are now at Kollywood is…?

And, to find more, go ahead reading…

‘Vandhan Vendran’s story tells the tale of Siva (Jiiva), who is a boxer by profession, falls in love with Anjana (Taapsee), who loses her father in an encounter with a Mumbai don (Nanda). Anjana puts a condition that only if Siva makes the don, who is responsible for her father’s death, to surrender to law she would accept his love. On his mission, Siva gets acquainted with the don and asks him to help him in his love by surrendering himself to the law. But, twist comes there that Siva and Ramana find that they are brothers of same mother and what happens next to the story, whether Siva sacrifices his love for his brother or Ramana offers himself for his brother Siva’s love or what about Anjana’s vow to bring her father’s killer to Justice… You have to watch the film!

Jiiva yet again comes out with a tremendous performance with this film. He excels with his varied expressions as a boxer, a lover, a brother and as a responsible angry young man. Hats off to this talented actor, who has again proved that he is a man of substance, with his superb acting skills!

Taapsee, as an architect, comes cute that what she appeared in her previous outing ‘Aadukalam’. But, she lacks that charm in expressions. Reasons, not only as a cute angel girl, the actress has also featured as an action star that she has handled weapons in this film. But, she fails to impress. Sorry, Taapsee, better luck next time!

Nanda, it is high time this wonderfully talented and good looking star should introspect himself with his past roles. The actor should now decide whether to continue doing the baddies. His role in much acclaimed film ‘Eeram’ was received well. But, it is not that he can fit well in all those negative characters, especially when he has to raise his fist for action! Nevertheless, the actor has tried his best to put a show but fails because of his looks and body built!

Comedian Santhanam at some places succeeds in tickling our funny bones with the character of Panipooriwala and those oneliners!

After his big hit ‘Kandaen Kadhalai’, and his earlier hit ‘Jayam Kondaan’, R. Kannan, a student of renowned director Mani Ratnam, has delivered yet another big project with this much hyped film. But, the director has failed to impress. In spite of his much hard work and efforts, it is very sad, that the untidy screenplay has let him down in this film, otherwise he could have again come out with yet another big success.

And as a film, the whole narration travels in a flashback mode many times, and sometimes it confuses as we face some difficulty in connecting those anecdotes. Screenplay could have been given more attention as it lacks coherence and crispiness. Also, the script drags at places.

Dialogues of Pattukkottai Prabhakar are well written that adds some strength to the movie. It seems the story, jointly written by writer Prabhakar and director R. Kannan, is inspired by the Hindi film ‘I Hate Luv Stories’ and Hollywood hit ‘Going the Distance’ but the director denies it.

Romance is filmed well, and action as well. Songs are filmed so nicely and forms the major visual pluses of the film. Thanks to the good tunes scored by music composer Thaman and the camera handling done by P G Muthiah.

While Thaman has already put his songs ‘Anjana…’ and ‘Kanchana mala…’ on top of the charts, which also lingers on even after you leave the cinema, cameraman Muthiah spreads a visual treat with his different lenses. Good work guys!

V T Vijayan could have given more cuts to this ‘also-an-action’ movie. Otherwise, he has well understood this Romance!

The movie is produced by K. S. Sreenivasan under the banner Vasan Visual Ventures.

Overall, ‘Vandhan Vendran’ has come as a big treat, but if it had rectified some flaws it could have seen a big success. May be another ‘Ko’ for Jiiva!

Sorry, Jiiva. Lady luck has not favoured as she did the magic that time!

However, ‘Vandhan Vendran’ is a good entertainer with all those basic ingredients of a wholesome entertainer!

Sure a watchable…!!!

Engeyum Eppothum - Movie Review

Ramana’ and ‘Ghajini’, both Tamil and Hindi, cannot be erased from the minds of film goers forever. And, his next magnum opus ‘7aam Arivu’ is all set to see its release soon With his series of blockbusters under his kitty A R Murugadoss has proved that he is one of the most talented directors of Indian cinema. This young and highly talented director has turned producer with a simple and strategic film ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’!

‘Engeyum Eppodhum’ is released now. Result?

Yes, the director, and now also a producer, has successfully come out with flying colours, with the neat narration of this wonderfully woven story!

Bus accidents are very common these days. And, we see it as just an accident… When it happens to us and the experience could be anything – just an experience or a life changing big turning point!

‘Engeyum Eppodhum’ brings the latter! Yes, the story’s core point is a bus accident that puts two couples’ lives upside down!

Automobile company employee Kadhiresan (Jai) and Nurse Manimekalai (Anjali) are neighbours and these two opposite characters, a soft-spoken and good-hearted boy and outspoken and very practical girl, fall in love. They decide to get married and set out to meet Kadhiresan’s father, who lives in Villupuram. The couple boards a bus from Trichy, in a bus that goes to Chennai.

Another couple, Gautham (Sharvanand) and Amudha (Ananya) are also struck by the arrows of Cupid, when Gautham, an IT professional in Chennai, helps Amudha, who had come to Chennai from Trichy for an interview. After the interview Amudha returns to Trichy. The love-bug-bit unrest couple contemplates to meet again. Amudha again travels to Chennai in search of Gautham but in vain boards a bus at Chennai to travel back to Trichy.

Here, Gautham, who had come to Trichy, boards the same Chennai bus that Kadhiresan and Manimekalai take to go to Villupuram.

What destiny has is – a life-changing accident at Villupuram! And, the two couples meet at this point to give a big twist in the story.

What happens next? You, find the answer on Silverscreen!

Jai – Oh, what a performance? Where this guy had hidden all his potentials? Wonderful acting, extraordinarily delivered! This talented actor will go places if he chooses characters like this. Well done, Jai!

Sharvanand – Another, good show of acting skill in this film. He perfectly fits that IT guy, and all those expressions come to him and he shows it at ease.

Ananya – The bubbly actress does it again, after her unforgettable performance in ‘Nadodigal’. She adds big strength to the humourous track of the story with her energetic acting!

Anjali – Yet another simple and neat performance from this young girl, and yes the girl definitely brings love in the air with her eyes and facial expressions.

Other characters also fit the bill with their underplay acting. Others sure make a mark but stand nothing before the performance and dominance of the four lead characters.

Kudos to the debut director! M. Saravanan, a student from the school of A R Murugadoss, rises to heights with his well written screenplay with a never told, simple story, delivered in a novel way, but as clear water! And, characterization work also is excellent!

The flashbacks are nicely evolved and entwined in the fabric of the screenplay. The hard work of this young talented director is seen in every frame of the film. Sure, title ‘Eneyum Eppodhum’ will become the nametag for M. Saravanan. A big pat on his back!
The film introduces another talented young man, here. Sathya’s songs are good. But more than songs, the background score brings out the best from this debut composer. The right string and beat at the right place! Sathya has helped for the soft travel of the screenplay, and emerged big at places where his sound is required! Lyrics by Na. Muthukumar and M. Saravanan are an asset to the songs.

Velraj’s eye for detail is seen in many places. His work film by film is improving. And, with ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’ he sure makes another big leap. The travelling of his camera all through the film is very supportive to the story and is a big plus of the movie. The accident scene is worth mentioning!

Editing is good. But, could have given more cuts in the first half and at places in the second. Nevertheless, Anthony has worked understandingly!

‘Engeyum Eppodhum’ also joins the big league of big films in content, though made as a small budget and as small actor movie, with its out-of-the-box story and wonderfully woven screenplay, and a neat performance of the characters.

Big cheers to the Guru and the student… Yes, Murugadoss and M. Saravanan have done it!

And, it is a good maiden venture for Hollywood’s Fox Studios, who has produced the movie along with the ace director!

Again, big thanks to them for bringing out a stand-out film in the crowd of ‘masala’ run-of-the-mills!

A must watch – For every cinema aspirant, a cinema lover, a critic and for all ordinary film goers!

Get it seen, before others ask, “Have you not seen ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’?

Aayiram Vilakku – Movie Review

This film has to have a release during those times when violence-stricken Madurai films were hitting screens in a row! And, ‘Aayiram Vilakku’ also comes with a story with Madurai city in the backdrop and with those sickles and other deadly weapons to scare us!!

Shathanoo Bhagyaraj, after his romantic outings with ‘Sakkarakatti’ and ‘Kandaen’, is venturing into big action with this film, and when veteran actor Sathyaraj was beside him, the actor seemed had no hardships in portraying, and he does it with elan!

Lingam (Sathyaraj) is a dreadful don of Madurai city and this unseen tough man raises fear among big and small people alike, but Rathinam (Suman), another big shot, wants and expects an encounter with Lingam.

Gopal (Shanthanoo) is a poor and honest boy who works in a mill in the same city. He falls in love with Megha (Sana Khan).

Lingam, who wants to get reformed in life, happens to meet Gopal and shows all his care and love, but hiding his identity. Gopal also finds a big caring heart in Lingam and gets close in the life of Lingam.

The story takes a twist when Rathinam targets Gopal, and now Lingam, who wants to shun violence, has to take the weapon again for his loving companion Gopal! And, here Gopal also takes a big move for the sake of Lingam!

So, what happens in the life of Lingam and Gopal? Watch it on Silver screen!

Sathyaraj has again delivered a stunning performance with equal dose of action and emotion. Shanthanoo has also supported the movie with all his efforts to give the performances for those romance, action and emotional scenes.

Suman and Sana Khan do their part to their best!

After his debut movie ‘February 14’, this is director S P Hosimin’s next that he succeeds in delivering a neat entertainer with a mix of all the ingredients of a commercial cinema.

The film’s music is composed by Srikanth Deva and camera is handled by D. Kannan. Both have done their job perfectly for the story, but Kannan goes that extra length with his camera. Good work, Kannan! Editing is done by Sasikumar.

Vairamuthu has written all the songs of the film, which are already a hit in the media. ‘Madhura…’ song is the highlight of the music with its well written lyrics, superb composing and perfect visuals.

‘Aayiram Vilakku’ is produced by HMI Movies. The movie’s production was over and ready for release long time back – last year, but getting a release only now. But, yes, the movie has succeeded to impress the awaiting fans!

Watchable it for Sathyaraj and Shanthanoo!

Suriya’s 7aam Arivu

Suriya’s ‘7aam Arivu’ is almost over and getting released on this Diwali. Suriya plays three characters in the film – a circus aritist, a scientist and a Buddhist monk. The tricks and actions of the circus artist’s role are done by Suriya himself by taking big risks and hardships.

The actor has also done dangerous stunts on his own. It is said that the A R Murugadoss directed film has many new things in film to offer. Shruti Hassan is playing the female lead and a Vietnamese stunt actor is playing the villain.

Industry is expecting another historic hit from Suriya – A R Murugadoss combo, the magic what they did with their earlier outing ‘Ghajini’. And, one man from Bollywood is very keen and awaiting the release of the film and he is none other than Aamir Khan, who reprised Suriya in the Hindi remake of ‘Ghajini’ that became a super duper hit in his career. Now, the star is eyeing ‘7aam Arivu’ also to do a remake in Hindi. The actor would like to have A R Murugadoss again to direct the movie as he knows his talents and ‘Ghajini’ history is there as a proof.

If ‘7aam Arivu’ makes another history then sure Aamir will buy the remake rights to make it in Bollywood!

Black and White Photography

Many digital photographers actually prefer to shoot images for Black and White in low contrast situations. So an dark or overcast day can be a great time to shoot out door shots.

Ironically these are the days that those who shoot only in color sit at home complaining about the ‘poor light’. So next time you find yourself with a dark and gloomy day – shoot some black and white shots.

Black and White Photography

Most of the general tips on how to compose or frame a good shot apply just as well to black and white photography as they do when shooting in color – however the main obvious difference is that you’re unable to use color to lead the eye into or around your shot. This means you need to train yourself to look at shapes, tones and textures in your frame as points of interest. Pay particularly attention to shadows and highlights which will become a feature of your shot.

Bunk beds are not just for kids... they are wonderful space savers for vacation homes, and guest rooms. Sleek and modern as well as functional!
Bunk beds are a traditional favorite as children’s bedroom furniture

But bunk beds also have advantages to offer as contemporary bedroom furniture. Totally Furniture carries a variety of modern loft beds that would look right at home in an artist’s studio or small condo, with futon seating or desk space for greater versatility.

Mesothelioma Treatment

Mesothelioma Treatment Options

Mesothelioma treatment can entail a number of therapies intended to kill cancerous cells, prevent the tumor from spreading or alleviate the symptoms of the disease. Each patient’s situation is unique and will shape their treatment plan. Factors such as the stage and form of mesothelioma, treatment history, patient’s location, ability to travel and financial situation are all important to consider when seeking treatment.

Types of Mesothelioma Treatment

If a patient’s diagnosis and health indicates that their response to curative treatment may be positive, their doctor may develop a course of treatment to remove the tumor(s) and attempt to prevent metastasis throughout the body. If the patient is dealing with a late-stage cancer, the treatment is more likely to be palliative in nature, addressing the symptoms while improving the patient’s quality of life. The following treatment options may be either palliative or curative, depending on the patient’s case:

Surgery
Surgery is one of the most common treatments for mesothelioma. Patients whose cancer was diagnosed before it spread beyond the lymph nodes may be eligible for curative surgery that removes the tumors. Depending upon the patient’s diagnosis and overall health, mesothelioma surgeries can be either curative or palliative, and may fall somewhere in between if surgery efforts are effective. Mesothelioma surgery is commonly followed by other treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation in an attempt to kill any remaining cancer cells.

Emerging & Alternative Treatments
While surgical procedures, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are considered the most common types of mesothelioma treatment, a number of new therapies are currently in development. Immunotherapy manipulates the patient’s immune system into attacking the tumors, while photodynamic therapy exposes cancer cells to photosensitizing drugs and specific lights. Gene therapy is another experimental treatment that attempts to correct defective genes that may lead to cancerous changes.

Multimodal Therapy
Multimodal therapy is one of the most common approaches to treating mesothelioma, combining two or more treatments that may be completed simultaneously or in a planned sequence. A mesothelioma specialist can most adequately analyze a patient’s condition and develop a treatment regimen that will best benefit the patient.

Clinical Trials
Clinical trials are used to test experimental treatments before they are approved for widespread clinical use. These trials often explore new procedures and drugs and compare them to the current standard of mesothelioma treatment.

Alternative & Complimentary Treatments
When choosing a therapy plan, some patients consider alternative and complementary mesothelioma treatments. Alternative treatments refer to any unconventional treatment methods, and complementary treatments refer to an alternative therapy used to supplement one or more conventional treatments. A number of mesothelioma survivors credit their remission to alternative therapies.

Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy has shown to be the most effective and least invasive form of treatment to extend life expectancy. Depending upon the location of the cancer, some patients may be eligible for heated chemotherapy, a treatment commonly used for cases of peritoneal mesothelioma. Cisplatin, the most commonly used chemotherapy drug for mesothelioma, is frequently used in conjunction with pemetrexed to achieve the most advantageous results in reducing tumors

Radiation
Radiation therapy directly applies radiation to the cancerous locations. This is through either sealed or unsealed source radiation. Patients of all stages are eligible to receive radiation therapy, as it can be used in conjunction with other treatments to reduce tumor growth and ease symptoms.

Buzz is that Shahid Kapoor is more than involved in Kunal Kohli's upcoming film

According to rumours, Shahid Kapoor, who has always expressed a desire to get into direction, is taking his dream a bit too seriously with Kunal Kohli's next film.
According to sources, the actor gives a lot of inputs in the film, tentatively titled Janam Janam Ka Saath Hai Hamara Tumhara.

The movie is a period love story set across three generations and stars SK opposite ex flame Priyanka Chopra. The pair is coming together for the first time for this project after Kaminey.

In control
A highly placed source on the set revealed, "Shahid has more or less taken the reins from director Kunal Kohli's hands. He sometimes also calls the shots on important matters like where to shoot and how to shoot a particular scene."

The source informs that the actor has also contributed a lot to the script
"Kunal wanted to shoot the first schedule in London but Shahid requested him to shoot in Mumbai first. So the director gave in.

SK wanted to shoot the first schedule in the city, so that he is available to finish some patchwork for Mausam his dad's film."

Working in tandem
A friend of the actor explains, "Every big star gives inputs in his film, it doesn't mean they are ghost directing it. The actor and the director work as a team and consult each other."

While the Kapoor lad remained available for comment, when asked if he is doing most of the direction, Kunal quipped sarcastically, " ¦And I am acting in the film."

Vijay post to Kavalan is planning his career in a planned strategy as he is doing commercial entertainers with sensible filmmakers like Shankar for Nanban, now Vijay will be teaming up with none other than gen-next director A.R Murugadoss for the first time. Buzz in tinsel town is that A.R Murugadoss, who’s busy with the postproduction work of Surya starrer 7am Arivu has met Vijay and narrated a one-line summary of his script. Vijay who is very happy with the script has given his nod to the director.

Hold your breath viewers; the director is in plans to cast Bollywood beauty Sonam Kapoor as Vijay’s pair in this film. Grapevine is that A.R Murugadoss has been roped in for a huge, undisclosed amount. In all probabilities Harris will be giving the music while Nirav Shah is the cinematographer.

Aascar Ravichandran and S.A Chandrasekar will be producing the film on first copy basis and Fox Star Studios will release the film all over the world.

The duo will complete their respective projects and start the project!

"not going to kollywood" sonam says

After reports emerged that Bollywood lass Sonam Kapoor may make her Southern cine debut with a Tamil movie, the actress has called the reports plain rumours. Sonam Kapoor was also reported to be replacing Sonakshi in the Kamal Haasan starrer Viswaroopam.

The actress recently conveyed through her micro blogging website that she was not offered any role in Kollywood, but added that she would consider doing South Indian movies if offered quality roles. In her earlier post, the actress mistook Tollywood for Kollywood, but later corrected it. Sonam Kapoor is currently working in Players opposite Abhishek Bachchan. The actress had also announced a break from movies after Players and Mausam to improve her health. We believe, after Sonakshi, more Bollywood birds will fly South

MANSOOR KHAN IS BACK

Now this is going to be ‘big breaking news’ for all those who actually thought that one of Indian Film Industry’s gem was lost and took a sabbatical. His career began way back with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, followed by Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, Akele Hum Akele Tum and then Josh. Now in such cases, you really don’t want the readers to keep guessing. So I can simply put it like – MANSOOR KHAN IS BACK!

Yes, the producer of Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na is back to where he belongs and back to what he does best. As of now, Aamir Khan has once again urged him to step into writing, and that too for Aamir Khan Productions. Aamir clarified the above when I met him yesterday at the Taj Lands End in Bandra where he was giving interviews for his next production Delhi Belly.

He quotes, “Mansoor Khan is a great talent. He produced Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na with me. I had to convince him for that (laughs). But this time I’ve convinced him to write for me too. After a long time, he will be coming back to writing in films. Four of us – I, Kiran, Mansoor and Nuzhat are working on it together. We start writing next month.”

deepika and vijay maliya new lovers

Ex flame of Ranbir Kapoor, actress Deepika Padukone is, currently, linked to Siddharth Mallya, the son of the liquor baron Vijay Mallya. Though the two haven’t confirmed their romance to the media, the tongues have been wagging right since they rubbed cheeks on IPL (Indian Premiere League).

The two have been spotted on many occasions since then and though they have maintained that they are merely friends, there is little doubt in the shrewd minds of the tabloid as to their brewing romance. The couple had an Indian Christmas which they celebrated in the town. But the buzz is that they are heading to London to celebrate the New Year. So, they can look forward to a cosy UK celebration as they bid adieu to 2010.

Meanwhile, Siddhartha has reasons to look happy. After all, his girlfriend Deepika Padukone is shedding weight and going near size zero for her item song in ‘Dum Maro Dum.’ Recently, we saw Katrina Kaif shed oodles of weight to look glamorous in ‘Tees Maar Khan’. Earlier, Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai had gone size zero for their films Tashan and Dhoom 2.

After making her breakup with Ranbir public and taking a full-fledged `panga’ on the `Koffee with Karan’ show with the youngest Kapoor boy Deepika Padukone is back in news. If you are a bollywood superstar you have to deal with controversies every day, whether you want them or not. Since the IPL days when Deepika was a prominent face at the Mallya matches sitting alongside Siddharth Mallya, there have been speculations of the two having an affair.

The rumors started catching up when both of them were spotted together at various events and parties organized by the millionaire son of the liquor king.

Rumor has it that the two love birds have planned a full-fledged vacation at London for the New Year celebrations.

After 5 films releasing back to back this year, the long-legged star has a well-deserved off. Both of them have however remained silent on the rumors and have maintained the cliché of being `good friends’. Vijay Mallya’s son is known to have a Casanova image in the industry but the beauty is a well experienced campaigner.

The 12th annual IIFAs, hosted by Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani, started 90 minutes late after a marathon green carpet stroll by Bollywood stars into the sold-out Rogers Centre in Toronto.

When the gala awards show did get under way, it quickly featured a host of A-list Indian film stars – including Kangana Ranaut, Bobby Deol, Shilpa Shetty of Big Brother fame, Priyanka Chopra and Bipasha Basu -- shimmering and shaking during full-on Bollywood music and dance routines.

Going into the main awards show, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai led the field with 12 nominations, followed close behind with Dabangg and its 11 nominations.

Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire) and the Deol family were among the dozens of Bollywood superstars on hand in Toronto for the three-day IIFA Awards festival and awards show.

Shah Rukh Khan earlier tweeted to his fans that he was getting his knee taped up to perform a dance routine at the IIFA Awards show. “Feeling awful not being fully fit for IIFA ... as is attending after so many years ... will try and do my best. Toronto knee or not here I come !!!”

During a security lapse at the Toronto gala show, a fan rushed to the front of the stage and grabbed Shah Rukh Khan’s leg until his grip was loosened and he was escorted away.

In all, around 22,000 Bollywood fans filled Rogers Centre for the awards show, which reached an estimated worldwide TV audience of 600 million people.

Toronto has a 600,000-strong indo-Canadian community and politicians of all stripes take every chance they can to pose in front of local cameras with Bollywood stars.

Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper is frequently photographed with Akshay Kumar, and Ontario premiere Dalton McGuinty on Friday did a photo call with Shah Rukh Khan.

On Saturday night, McGuinty arrived on the green carpet outside Rogers Centre alongside Shah Rukh Khan yet again.

And Anil Kapoor gave McGuinty a rousing introduction Saturday night as the Ontario politician at the Rogers Centre repaid Bollywood’s North American charm offensive by bringing worldwide TV attention to Toronto.

Ra one will be released in nearly 3000 screens

Red Chillies Entertainment’s ‘Ra.One’ is growing bigger and slicker day by day… While the movie is releasing only in October as a Diwali treat, but the makers have already started its promotion with much fervour.

According to sources, ‘Ra.One’ the most ambitious project of Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, will be released in nearly 3000 screens with over 2000 prints in circulation in October (predicted to be the biggest release across the country)! Not only this; Ram Mirchandani (Chief Creative Officer, Eros International) confirmed that ‘Ra.One’ will also release in 3D.

Now such being the case, it will prove to be a very big challenge for other players. Except Himesh Reshammiya’s ‘Damma Damm’, there are no movies in that Diwali slot. In fact, ‘Rascals’ (starring Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan) was supposed to release simultaneously along with ‘Ra.One’, however will now release during Dussehra. A point to be noted, Ajay who usually get Diwali has also seems to have differed this year following Ra.One’s release.

shahrukh and katrina kaif confirmed for yash chopra's new film

As already announced, Yash Chopra's next directorial venture stars the king of romance, Shahrukh Khan. As Yashji put it earlier, "Everyone knows that when I make a movie, Shahrukh will be involved with it. He is like family to YRF and I have always regarded him as one of my own."

However, after days of media conjecturing, we are happy to confirm that the two ladies, who will also be a part of this project, are Katrina Kaif, who will be playing a role opposite Shahrukh for the very first time, and Anushka Sharma, who was launched in "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi", alongside Shahrukh.

Orchestrated by Yash Chopra, this untitled movie will mark the coming together yet again of the award winning duo of the music maestro A. R. Rahman and the poet & lyricist, Gulzar.

When we spoke with him, he shared some of his thoughts with us.

"It's been 7 years since I directed Veer-Zaara and as I begin work on my new film I hear my inner voice asking me a lot of questions. Are you sure you want to direct again, you are nearly 80 years old and the audience is getting younger day by day. Can I really speak from my heart and still expect today's youth to listen to me? Will I be able to live up to the blind faith that Shahrukh Khan has in me and give him yet another memorable romantic film? Will I be able to present the beautiful Katrina Kaif and the very talented Anushka Sharma in a way they have never been seen before? Will I be able to inspire Rahman and Gulzar Bhai enough to create their best work yet?

The honest answer is... I DON'T KNOW! All I know is that I'm making a film that I believe in, a film that is about love and nothing else. A film which has an old soul but a young heart. A film which is classic in its look but contemporary in its language. A film which I'm making on one simple faith... the love that my audiences have given to me over the years. They have tolerated my indulgences for the past 50 years, I'm sure they will indulge me one more time."

The film is scheduled for a Diwali 2012 release, the festive time when Yash Chopra movies over the years have lit up homes worldwide.

Katrina kaif for Dhoom 3

Yash Raj’s highly action oriented film, ‘Dhoom 3’ will have triple dose of action, thrill and sex. The movie will have extra does of style which ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2’ lacked. To get into the role, Katrina Kaif needs to look sexier and hotter. Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra was also considered for the role opposite Aamir Khan but finally it was Kat who grabbed the meatier role.

We will see Katrine opposite Aamir Khan in this Yash Raj banner's next to be directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya.

The other actresses Esha Deol and Bipasha Basu had undergone a complete image make over and promised the audience hot body and bikini avatar.

It is heard that Aditya Chopra is convincing Katrina to shed her inhibitions and don a bikini in this one.

A source informs, "Kats will have a sexy makeover for the film, as per the tradition. A Dhoom girl is supposed to look extremely sensous.

Though she has great body but for this film she will have to undergo special training and tone up a bit more.

Kajal says I am a South heroine

Kajal: I am a South heroine
Lately, there were so many rumours about actress Kajal Aggarwal in connection with her alleged comment that she never considered herself to be a South Indian actress as she is a North Indian by birth. Though she subsequently issued her clarification, explaining that her comment, which appeared in a Mumbai tabloid, was misquoted by the media, the actress still cannot believe all this happened to her!
She said that she has no idea from where all these rumours started and was upset on hearing that South Indian film fraternity wanted to ban her. "I will never be disrespectful to the Telugu and Tamil film industry. I have been brought up to respect my roots. And my roots are in Tollywood and Kollywood. So I'm really hurt and angry that someone has started this whole 'ban' issue without as much as bothering to speak to me.''
Kajal flashes fire as she says, "I have not heard from any association nor have I heard from any one of consequence wanting to ban me because I guess everyone responsible and in a position of power knows the real truth. I have had super success in Magadheera, Maaveran, Mr. Perfect and with the grace of God, my career in the South is going upward. Why would I wish to give up something so good?'' The actress also maintained that she would do Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films simultaneously and there is no question of choosing one over the other.

Indians are in love with movies, even though most films follow a similar format called masala

Bollywood films often have their own sense of internal logic and can be as surreal as any musical produced by American or European studios. The music is generally pre-recorded, sung by a core group of singers, with actors miming the words. Generally, professional playback singers provide the voices but of late there's a trend of the actors singing for themselves, like Aamir Khan in Ghulam. Bollywood films are often engaging spectacles that tell timeless stories of love and confusion.

Indians are in love with movies, even though most films follow a similar format called masala. Movies are three to four hours long, include dozens of songs and dances, top stars, the story between the songs of boy meets girl without any kissing or sexual contact, lots of action though no bloodshed, and always a happy ending. Fourteen million Indians go to the movies on a daily basis and pay the equivalent to the average Indian's day's wages to see any of the over 800 films churned out by Bollywood each year. That's more than double the number of feature films produced in the United States.

Although American-made films have been edging into India, only the blockbuster Titanic has ever made India's top five list. However, Indian films have become somewhat of an international obsession. Bollywood films are being shown in American and British theaters on a more and more frequent basis. These theaters have become community foci for the South Asian communities around the world. Though separated by a vast distance from home, South Asians have found Bollywood films to be a great way of staying in touch with their culture and their fellow South Asians.

Since India is a country of sixteen official languages and a total of twenty-four languages spoken by over a million people each, some portions of the film industry are fragmented. While Mumbai (Bollywood) leads India in film production, its specialty lies with Hindi movies. Chennai (formerly Madras) produces films in Tamil and Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is the Bengali movie capital. Bollywood's film production center is a government-owned studio facility known as "Film City" in the northern suburbs of Mumbai. Bollywood traces its start to 1911 when the first silent Indian feature film was released by D.P. Phalke. The industry boomed and today there are over 250 theaters in Mumbai alone.

The stars of Bollywood are very popular and highly paid, considering the budget of the films. Stars may be in such high demand that they're working on ten films at once. Photographs of Bollywood stars grace shop windows and homes throughout the country. Providing three to four hours of diversion is the primary objective of Bollywood and it's a recipe done well. Indian movies are becoming more and more popular around the world so watch for them in theaters and video stores near you.

Saif set for a new work

Director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK are all set to make a zombie comedy. The duo had a success with their last, critically acclaimed Shor in the City.

This zombie comedy will be the first out-of-the-box, unique concept for the Indian audience. The latest buzz we hear is that Saif Ali Khan will be playing the central character, probably the zombie. However, the zombie character has been kept under wraps.

According to a trusted source, “The film is produced by Saif Ali Khan’s Illuminati Films and is tentatively called Go Goa Gone. It is a horror comedy, a mix of two unlikely genres. Incidentally, Saif has been quoted saying that he wanted to make a horror film for some time now. Something like this has never been done in India.”

He further added “Preparation on the film started a few months ago, and shooting is about to start. Saif loved the idea in the first few minutes of hearing the concept and wanted to do it immediately. Saif will play a central role in the film while his sister’s boyfriend Kunal Khemmu will play an integral part.”

When contacted, Raj and DK said, “After Shor, people said we should do a romcom. And we thought, why not do a zomcom instead? We have had this story idea for years, but we think now is a great time to do this film. And the best person to do this with is Saif. Also, GGG is a complete change from Shor. A complete horror comedy with a lot of action thrills and chills.”

colourful IIFA 2011 toronto

Toronto, June 26 From long, trailed, ruffled to off-shoulder gowns - B-town beauties like Sonakshi Sinha and Sridevi flaunted gowns on the IIFA green carpet and teamed it up with Victorian hairdos.

From young actresses like Genelia D'Souza, Amrita Puri, Prachi Desai and Sonakshi Sinha to the senior lot including Sridevi, Shilpa Shetty, Bipasha Basu, Amisha Patel, Malaika Arora Khan - all of them sported different variety of gowns. Even Mallika Sherawat, Neha Dhupia and Dia Mirza came in gowns at the at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony held here Saturday.

Short, long, trailed, ruffled, off-shoulder, single shoulder - the variety was there for all to see. However, what was noteworthy was that most of the actresses chose to go with nude shades, and subdued embroidery or embellishments.

Sridevi, who announced her comeback to the film industry at the IIFA, looked stunning in a bright red, full length, off-shoulder gown. She had teamed it up with a sparkling diamond neckpiece.

Mallika, who wore a sari on the first day of IIFA, came dressed in an animal print long dress for the main night, while Shilpa Shetty and Sonakshi chose to go blingy black with long dresses.

Prachi Desai, who won an award for her supporting performance in "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai", wore a green dress "in support of IIFA's green movement".

Bipasha and Amisha landed themselves in a fashion faux pas as they sported similar looking dresses on the green carpet, except that Bipasha's dress was beige, and Amisha's an into-the-eye sunshine yellow.

However, there were some guests from fildom who splashed desi style - Shabana Azmi, Zeenat Aman, Sharmila Tagore, Hema Malini, and younger actresses like Esha Deol and Aarti Chhabbria sported saris. Later Anushka Sharma, winner of this year's best actress award, was seen in a sari too

The demise of M F Hussain, the well-known painter from India, has saddened all his fans, who loved him so much. On the day he left the world, his fans in Bollywood such as Shahrukh Khan recalled the memories of the association he had with the painter.

Shahrukh said, “I have been very close to him, and so I just can’t believe he is no more. I’m a big fan of his work and the walls in my house are full of his paintings. I was working very late and I got up late but when I woke-up, I got know that Husain Saab has passed away. I always believed him to be an immortal personality.”

Shahrukh added, “I really miss him. I had to go to London for holidays but they got delayed by five-six days. The first thing I used to do on my visits to London was to meet him. salman Khan shot a humourous promo for his production, ‘Chillar Party’ like Aamir did for ‘Delhi Belly’

salman Khan shot a humourous promo for his production, ‘Chillar Party’ like Aamir did for ‘Delhi Belly’

Salman Khan seems to be learning a lot from his friend Aamir Khan, especially with respect to the craft that Aamir excels in: film promotion. Aamir, producer of ‘Delhi Belly’ had shot a promo with the lead cast of the film, Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal which created a lot of uproar. So, now Salman has decided to follow the same to promote his film, ‘Chillar Party’.

In the Delhi Belly promo, Aamir gets into a dialogue with the lead trio about the film and similarly Salman also gets into humorous dialogue with the kids around the film. Salman Khan’s signature style has been to remove his t-shirt as he has famously done so in most of blockbuster films. And the actor-turned-producer does the same in this cute and funny promo he shot for Chillar Party that he’s rumoured to have written as well.

The kids in the film were only too excited to see their favourite actor, Salman, shed his shirt and joined him by removing their shirts too. The promos feature Salman having a light-hearted conversation with the kids in the film whose characters names are Encyclopedia to Jhangia, Akram, Secondhand, Panauti, Silencer, Aflatoon, Shaolin and Fatka.

Bollywood fighting with each other in IIFA 2011

New Delhi: The 12th International Indian Film Academy Awards 2011 in Toronto on Sunday opened with a big 'Dabangg' with Salman Khan's tough cop romp scooping most of the awards, including best film and female debut for actor Sonakshi Sinha.

The event that packed three days of film, song and dance culminating in Saturday's awards ceremony, is often referred to as the Indian Oscars and brought together the entire galaxy of Bollywood stars in Toronto's Rogers Centre. The awards are expected to have a worldwide viewership of 700-million.

Best Direction went to director Karan Johar for 'My Name is Khan', a melodrama starring Shah Rukh Khan about Muslims facing backlash after the September 11, 2001 attacks. Khan also won Best Performance in a Leading Role (Male) for playing a man suffering from Asperger's Syndrome in 'My Name is Khan'.

Best Performance in a Leading Role (Female) went to actor Anushka Sharma for her performance as a feisty wedding planner in 'Band Baaja Baaraat'.

Arjun Rampal won Best supporting actor for political drama 'Rajneeti' while Prachi Desai won best supporting actress for 'Once upon a time in Mumbai.'

Actor Ranvir Singh won the award for best debut male award for his role in the romantic comedy 'Band Baaja Baaraat'.

'Dabangg' led the pack in the all-important music category, taking three of four major awards and winning for best Playback Singer Female, best Playback Singer Male and best Music Director.

The blockbuster film set box-office records in India and marked the comeback of actor Salman Khan in the quirky avatar of Inspector Chulbul Pandey, making him a household name in India.

Best Lyrics went to Niranjan Iyengar for ‘Sajda’ and ‘Noor-e-Khuda’ in the film ‘My Name is Khan’. MNIK also won the award for Best Story. The award for best dialogue went to the thriller 'Ishqiya'.

Earlier, Bollywood stars thrilled hundreds of fans on the green carpet before the awards show that raises the profile of Bollywood globally and could lead to exciting opportunities for film production abroad.

The awards gala was a grand music-and-dance spectacle, with hosts Boman Irani and Riteish Deshmukh doing comedy gags.

The entire stadium erupted with screams when Khan took to the stage to kid around with the hosts in a witty banter.

Awards in 15 categories are up for grabs, with the gangster film 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai' leading the pack with an impressive 12 nominations. ‘Dabangg’ followed closely with 11 nominations.

"I certainly hope we'll sweep all the awards," said producer Arbaaz Khan. His wife, Mallika Arora Khan, already picked up the best choreography award for her gyrating dance number in the film.

Veteran actor Dharmendra was presented with a lifetime achievement award for his 50 years of acting in Bollywood.

"I know Punjabis from India and Punjabis from Pakistan, but both have found a new home in Canada," he said in Punjabi, referring to years of bitter feuding between India and Pakistan.

Sharmila Tagore, who has won several Indian National Film Awards, was also presented an award for outstanding achievement.

As per tradition, the show's first number was produced by the host country. The Ontario government's three-minute mix of video and live performance showcased the province's diversity with two Asian dragon dancers, bag pipers and South Asian costumes.

A high-energy dance number was performed by actress Kanagan Ranaut and a song-and-dance number by Bobby Deol, who arrived in a car that was driven onstage. He was later joined onstage by brother Sunny and their father Dharmendra.

The dance performances also included acts by Ranvir Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. Riteish Deshmukh won the award for best performance in a comic role for her part in ‘Housefull’, while Sonu Sood took the prize for Best Performance in a Negative Role for his work in ‘Dabangg’.

The award for best screenplay went to Abhinav Kahsyap and Dileep Shukla for ‘Dabangg’.

For the first time at the IIFA, Star Plus channel presented the Hottest Pair award to Anushka Sharma and Ranvir Singh for which 15 million votes were cast online. "Anushka, you make me feel hot," said Ranvir accepting the award in her company.

The first Green IIFA Award by Panasonic went to actress Priyanka Chopra.

Irrfan Khan, whom Anil Kapoor lauded for his performances on the global stage, received the IIFA award for his international performances.

The IIFA Rocks, a Bollywood-inspired concert and fashion show bonanza, paid a nostalgic tribute Saturday to late pop star Michael Jackson in a moving concert by Jermaine Jackson, elder brother of the King of Pop, to mark his second death anniversary. Singer and composer Sonu Nigam joined him in the performance.

IIFA Rocks started the awards portion of the weekend by giving away some technical film awards in between some high-energy musical performances by Mallika Sherawat who danced to 'Arabian Nights'.

Namrata Rao won the IIFA award for editing, Naharika Khan for costume and Vijay Dayal for best song 'Ainvayi ainvayi' in 'Band Baaja Baaraat'.

Sabu Cyril won the award for art direction in 'Robot', which also won the IIFA awards for special effects and make-up.

The IIFA provides the climax for three days of moviegoing, dancing, fashion, music and a business forum aimed at strengthening ties between India and Canada -- something event organizers hope to do around the world, too.

Salman Khan not going to IIFa awards in toronto

The IIFA weekend starts tomorrow, and fans are waiting to spot their favorite stars on the green carpet. The IIFA build up has included stories about the Bachchan’s not attending, whether Shahrukh Khan will be performing due to his knee injury and much more.

The latest buzz on the IIFA weekend, is that superstar Salman Khan won’t be attending the actually award ceremony, and this will surely leave his fans disappointed. The idea of an IIFA weekend is to take time of work and to bond with your colleagues, which means committing to the whole event.
It goes without saying; the IIFA’s have gone downhill ever since the Bachchans' have stopped participating.

It’s now been reported Salman will only be there to promote his debut movie production Chillar Party and won’t be present at the three day event which kicks off tomorrow in Toronto. Salman told reporters, ‘I am shooting for my next film Bodyguard and it is an action movie, so yes, you people won't see me there. IIFA will miss me this time.’

We wonder if it’s anything to do with the star’s enemy Shahrukh Khan being there to perform at the award ceremony. Either way Salman won’t be there cheering the actor while he is performing on stage.

Chillar Party will open the 12th IIFA awards ceremony and will be Salman's first production. Do you think SRK has pushed Salman away from attending the IIFA award ceremony?

I know my daughter is a HUGE fan of “King Khan” and so desperately wanted to be a part of the festivities – but that plan didn’t materialize for us. We will be watching the star-studded show come Saturday evening along with millions of other viewers!

With events already in motion in and around the Greater Toronto area, there is a definite “buzz” in the air. Here is a run-down of what’s happening where!

Hey IIFA whats happening? say Torronto

At some point in the news reporting I realized first that the word Canada is never used. It is always reported that International Indian Film Academy Awards is visiting "North America for the first time". Once or twice is fair usage but when I consistently see and hear such an omission of the host country's name... ?
That isn't even what prompted this entry.
Jermaine Jackson is a musical performer for the IIFA Rocks fashion show at the Ricoh Coliseum. Say what? When MJ, Michael Jackson was alive, he had never visited this entire country (!) except for a single 'world tour' show in 1984. I don't know whether his brother Jermaine has appeared here besides during that one family performance. We have an extraordinary amount of cross border movie and television activity; yet I have not heard of Jermaine (or any other Jackson family performers) having otherwise visited Toronto or anywhere else in upper North America Canada throughout the past quarter century.
Why wouldn't IIFA hire a local music talent? Triumph is an example of a major Canadian success story and is from this region as well. They had even reunited a couple years ago at our national music awards telecast. Plus, their song lyrics are often as positive as any Bollywood Musical Number's.
Looking for an entertainer that is more dance-oriented? We have those too.

This is Canada. We spared soldiers to India during WWII in case of an attack there, from the Japanese who had taken over across the Far East. Are there broadcast television channels in New York City or Chicago or Atlanta etc., also dedicated to airing programs, news, and films about and from India and the entire South Asian region? Here there is and for over twenty years at that.
We have hundreds of thousands of South Asians living in Canada, all free to worship, to live work raise families and celebrate, and to promote or protest any of their causes publicly.
The least IIFA organizers could do is refer to CANADA more than "North America", and include a leading Canadian musical act over a non-visiting American*.

* Donny Osmond would have made for a great, and family friendly, American born choice. He has previously worked right here in Toronto (!) and continues to make music performances in Canada - including an appearance with his sister Marie in only a few weeks' time.

IIFA movement mis for abhishek and aishwarya due to aishwarya's pregnancy

The Bachchan family has always been an indispensible part of IIFA. Their presence was looked forward by the crowds with high anticipation. Being a brand ambassador of IIFA, Amitabh Bachchan cut himself from the event due to some tiff with the organizers. Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan not only make their presence felt every year but also performed during the event. But this time, the couple decided to skip the award for Aishwarya’s pregnancy.

It was earlier reported that Abhishek and Aishwarya will be performing to a medley of songs together but now, they have decided to skip the event on personal ground.

Well, the crowds of Toronto will surely miss fans Ash and Abhi but their absence is excusable.

aishwarya and abhishek get ready for theiy baby prince

The twitterazzi swooped down upon the news the instant actor and superstar Amitabh Bachchan hit the ‘send’ button. A tweet confirming the pregnancy of a leading actress in the industry, perhaps for the first time in cinematic history, made front page news in major national dailies. As the sun sets on the era of star kids, celebrity babies usher in a trend imported from Hollywood show business.

The celeb baby concept is a first in India, Hollywood has braced it and celebrated it for years now. THIS is India’s first celeb baby!

As Bollywood’s first family, the Bachchans have always been in the limelight, be it the intense coverage of the Abhi-Ash wedding or Senior B’s illness. And now with the baby on its way, the coverage seems to have upped and the paparazzi are waiting!
With Senior B tweeting the happy news, the whole nation, celebs et all, went in to a tizzy tweeting congratulatory messages. The news made front page in most news papers. Could we ever imagine, even a few years back – that a pregnancy announcement would make top headlines?

As a celeb baby, every moment of its life is going to be of interest, the pregnancy photos, the delivery date, the first baby photos might go to the highest bidder as is the Hollywood trend, the baby’s name will have the nation thinking and whether the new born will get the father’s height and gait or the mother’s looks. And post that, every action, every decision made by the celeb parents for the baby will be news. Tremendous pressure on a new-born isn’t it?

The celeb baby phenomenon has just come in to Bollywood with the Abhi-Ash baby announcement. The funny part is- Abhishek and Shweta had star parents as well, as did Esha Deol. But their birth and childhood was never half as high profile. Parents then perhaps did a much better job in protecting a childhood.

In the recent past, Ajay Devgan and Kajol’s children and Twinkle and Akshay Kumar’s son – has been in the news only when spotted with their star-parents. They aren’t stars yet. They still have the scope to grow up a little away from the lime light, make stupid mistakes and figure out fame and celeb-dom on their own. The Abhi-Ash baby will have no such luck.

The Abhi-Ash child will come in to an industry that worships the parents AND the grand parents. As Bollywood is getting used to the high profile stardom common in Bollywood, where every photo opp is grabbed and flashed in minutes, this celeb baby is on its way. With every baby-news related tweet trending in minutes – the stage is set.

So what goes in to the making of a celeb baby? No, we are not talking about the obvious! But just a look into why Nyasa or Aarav did not meet the bar. First- Both the parents must be celebs in news. One of them cannot be missing in action, no sabbaticals from being a celebrity. Kajol and Twinkle were not involved in Bollywood when they had their kids. Second- The pregnancy news must make headlines, be re-tweeted most or get the most hits online.

Hollywood has made peace with the celeb babies, the groomers they have as toddlers, the personal labels and brands they have even before they can talk properly, the trends they start and the labels they wear. Is Bollywood ready for this?

Hollywood has Suri and Shiloh, daughters of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie respectively. The celeb babies are already getting used to being under continuous paparazzi gaze and analysis by fashion critics. Shiloh wearing boots and shorts made news! And if the two girls are on each others social calendar – god save them! (They in fact had a play date) The Abhi-Ash child should take some pointers from them.

Clearly, with no space for mistakes or irresponsible behavior for the child and an eagle eye on mom’s pregnancy dates and lifestyle till the bundle of joy is received – life in the Bachchan household is just going to get more dramatic.

That is what life will be for Bollywood’s first celeb baby. Here’s hoping that he/she gets some more celeb playmates to give her company soon
